The shipment of corrugated products posted an increase for April, stemming several straight months of declines.
According to the Fibre Box Association, shipments for April reached 33.025 billion square feet, a 1.7 percent improvement from the figures the same time last year.
Despite the increase for the month shipments over the first four months of the year are down 2.5 percent to 123.77 billion square feet from last year’s four-month total of 126.892 billion square feet.
Reflecting the upward swing in market conditions over the past several months, the consumption of containerboard also increased for the most recent month. For April, consumption reached 2.532 million tons, a 1.7 percent improvement from figures the same time last year. While the monthly figure is an improvement, the year-to-date consumption total of 9.4 million tons is a 2.4 percent decrease from figures the same time last year.
While consumption and shipments have increased, the inventory of containerboard at corrugator plants climbed 2 percent to 2.288 million tons from the previous month. Reflecting the increase, the weeks of containerboard on hand increased by 2.6 percent to 4 weeks of supply.Latest from Recycling Today
