Copex delivers shear to French recycling company

Fers Et Metaux adds new Lidex scrap shear with 1,700 tons of cutting force.

Copex, an equipment company based in Lanester, France, has sold its first Lidex scrap shear with 1,700 tons of cutting force to the metals recycling company Fers ET Metaux, located in Fougerolles, France.

Copex, which has been selling the Lidex scrap shear with side compression since 2011, had previously sold 15 Lidex scrap shears with either 800 tons, 1,000 tons or 1,300 tons of shear force.

Francois Vialis, owner of Fers Et Metaux, says that the company has been a Copex customer for more than three decades. He says he chose the Lidex 1700 to allow the company to increase the quality of the sheared products and increase its production capacities.

The Lidex 1700 has a cutting width of 1,000 millimeters and a box width that has been reduced to 700 millimeters. The shear is able to process various types of scrap metal, including such diverse types as oxy-cuttings, railway rails, bales of concrete iron and demolition scrap, according to Copex.

“My father had a Copex shear, and I purchased a Copex 1350 16 years ago. This machine gave me a lot of satisfaction, so I decided that it was time to buy a new scrap shear from Copex for the next generation,” Vialis says.

Frédéric Malin, Copex’s chairman, says, “The fabrication of this machine required more than 15,000 working hours for Copex workshops. Considering the general current situation, this was very much appreciated by all the personnel. We appreciated to be able to count on the big trust showed by our customer.”

Nicolas Bourbey, Copex’s sales manager, says that while the company has manufactured a number of large shears, the company also is capable of producing equipment tailored to smaller jobs. “We also have a wide range of shears with smaller cutting forces, which are used especially in the demolition industry.”

Bourbey continues, “Thanks to the oversized lid, which covers more than 80 percent of the compression box, the Copex Lidex is the only machine in the world having a full automatic cycle. This cycle includes the dropping of the scrap from the pre-load table into the compression box, the closing of the box, the pre-compression of the log and the complete cutting cycle.”

“Apart from the technical performance, this project is a beautiful story. We are proud to have been able to satisfy a very demanding customer,” says Malin.
