Albert Bros. Inc., a metal recycling company based in Waterbury, Connecticut, received one of Hartford Business Journal’s 2019 Connecticut Family Business Awards, which recognize outstanding achievements in family-owned businesses and tell the story of a select group of the region’s most successful firms. The awards honor company that have had particularly strong successes over the last 12 months: completing expansions, growing in the marketplace, fulfilling major projects and breaking new ground in the local and state business community.
Albert Bros. Inc. took 1st Place in the 25–75 full-time employee category. Nearly 25 nominations were submitted for the annual competition this year from a wide range of industries including manufacturers, construction firms and bakeries. The winners were celebrated at an event at Farmington Gardens in Farmington, Connecticut, on Oct. 24.
Burt Albert, a third-generation owner of Albert Bros. Inc., had the opportunity to witness not only his sons Eric Albert and Jonathan Albert join the business but also his 26-year-old grandson, Jake Albert, join the family business a month before he died. Currently, Eric serves as the president and a fourth-generation owner of the business, and Jonathan is the company’s vice president. Jake begins the fifth generation to serve as an owner in the family business. Eric says the company’s longevity and success are due to its core values, which have continued with each new family generation of leadership.
Albert Bros. Inc. works with industrial sectors, like manufacturing and aerospace, and with contractors like roofers, plumbers, builders and electricians who generate scrap.
“Our loyal workforce of nearly 65 employees, some of which have worked here for decades, understand stewardship and teamwork. We’ve worked hard to build a culture that is incredibly consistent,” Eric adds.
