Connecticut Program Issues First Permit

WeRecycle! Inc. receives DEP permit.

WeRecycle! Inc., Meriden, Conn., has announced that it has received approval from the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and is fully permitted to disassemble used electronics for recycling. The DEP's Bureau of Waste Management has issued this approval under the General Permit for Disassembling Used Electronics. WeRecycle! is the first and only facility to be authorized under this new program.

Connecticut environmental regulations require businesses to properly manage and recycle computers and electronic devices.

"It is imperative that businesses establish a relationship with a reliable organization that will manage electronics in an environmentally responsible and secure manner," Mick Schum, P.E., president of WeRecycle!, says. "Our mission is to provide the most environmentally sound recycling options for all of the materials that we manage. Disassembling electronics on-site improves our efficiency and gives us greater control over the management of the end components (CRT glass, plastic, circuit boards, etc.)."  WeRecycle! maintains a no landfill no exporting policies on non-tested electronic equipment.

WeRecycle! has been at the forefront of the permit process, which began earlier this year.  "The approval couldn't have come at a better time," Schum says.  "Renovations at our 35,000-square-foot facility are complete, and we are ready to begin the disassembly process."  WeRecycle!'s facility has been renovated to include a new state of the art high security area and an electronics disassembly line.

WeRecycle! offers a complete array of electronic data security and IT asset management services, including certified hard drive and removable media data destruction (e.g. DLT tape, reel to reel, floppy, etc.).  WeRecycle!'s data erasure procedures adhere to all applicable standards including the Department of Defense Standard 5220.22-M.  Most importantly, destruction is verified and documented prior to recycling, to ensure data security and privacy.
