Computer Recyclers Of America Opens Fresno Facility

Company opens second location.

Computer Recyclers of America (CRA) opened what it claims to be California’s largest and most advanced e-waste recycling facility in Fresno Nov. 4.

On hand for the grand opening event were CRA President and CEO John Shegerian, Fresno Mayor Alan Autry, former Secretary of State Bill Jones and various members of the Fresno business, university and non-profit communities, CRA reports.

“As a longtime member of the Fresno business community, I am particularly proud of our accomplishments here today,” Shegerian said. The Fresno-based entrepreneur is also responsible for FinancialAid.com and the Bulldog Brewing Co. “This new facility is the harbinger of a new and powerful American industry and places Fresno at the epicenter of a trend that will bring more jobs and a cleaner environment to our communities.”

The CRA facility de-manufactures, recycles and crushes cathode ray tubes found in computer monitors, televisions and other types of video equipment. Its cathode ray tube crushers can process more than 1500 units per hour, according to the company. The facility is capable of processing up to 5 million pounds of electronics per month and provides central California with its first facility for dropping off unwanted televisions and computer monitors free-of-charge, according to the company.

CRA accepts computer monitors, televisions, AV equipment, outdated computers, peripherals, PDAs and RMAs, LCD monitors, LCD televisions, laptops, plasma screens, fax machines, copiers and other electronic items. It is approved by the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) and the California Department of Toxic Substance Control (DTSC) as an authorized outlet, and all activities within are monitored by a state-of-the-art surveillance and security camera system. All electronic components are completely recycled, according to the company, and easily traceable with the use of CRA’s bar coded reports.

CRA is headquartered in Visa, Calif., near San Diego.
