Chrin Brothers Landfill, in Williams Township, PA, is seeking to receive a conditional use permit to build a recycling facility/transfer station at its landfill. Initially the company had sought to have the facility listed as permitted as an accessory use. The company had hoped to build the operation on the landfill to allow the company to extract construction and demolition material for recycling purposes.
However, at a zoning meeting held Jan. 26th, the township’s board said the company needed a conditional use permit, rather than an accessory use permit.
The company, which has been seeking the C&D facility for several months, will be appearing before the township’s zoning hearing board Feb. 22nd. Richard Adams, zoning officer for the city, said that he hopes that a decision on the proposal will be made at that time.
In his testimony in front of the zoning board, Adams said that the Chrin proposal was a resource recovery facility, and thus would need the conditional use permit.
According to public records the facility would be around 8,000 square feet. It would source separate construction and demolition material, while railing some residual material to western Pennsylvania.
The landfill presently in operation has a conditional use permit, and operates in an area zoned for general industrial.
