The Columbus (Nebraska) Telegram reports the city council voted Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, to continue the residential drop-off recycling program for another year.
The decision was in response to the support voiced by residents attending the meeting, the article says.
“This is something that is going to save the community, save the environment,” said Mary Frauendorfer, who owns two commercial properties in the city, according to The Columbus Telegram.
Councilman Jim Bulkley agreed, the newspaper reports. “As corny as it sounds, we are stewards of our environment. I think we’ve got to keep that in mind.”
Columbus-based Shred Monster manages the city’s residential recycling program at a monthly cost of $5,500. In addition to continued services, Shred Monster now will collect glass and extend its hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the article says.
