Colorado Recycling Seeks Input on Boosting Recycling Levels

Colorado association will hold public forum to hear about bottle bill.

The Colorado Association for Recycling is seeking to boost its recycling levels.

In an announcement by the CAFR, the association noted that the state’s recycling levels is far below the national average. To boost the rate, the state is seeking programs and opportunities to increase its collection level.

One issue that is being discussed is the possibility of a statewide bottle bill.

During next year’s state legislature State Representative Angie Paccione plans on introducing a bill that would place a returnable deposit on beverage containers.

The CAFR, which has not taken a position on the bottle bill, is holding a public education forum where advocates and proponents of bottle bills will discuss the issue. The forum will be held Aug. 13th at the Arvada, Co., City Council Chambers.

Speakers at the forum will be Pat Franklin, Container Recycling Institute; Mick Barry, Mid-America Recycling; representatives of the Soft Drink Trade Associations and Beverage Industry, as well as Rep. Angie Paccione.
