Colmar Launches Propane Tank Processor

Colmar USA, based in Wheatfield, N.Y., has launched its patent-pending propane tank processor. The equipment was introduced to the market in April at the 2013 Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Convention & Exposition, held in Orlando, Fla.

The equipment is designed to provide scrap yards with a safe way to recycle propane tanks while generating more business for the consumers, the company says.

Processing begins by automatically positioning the propane tank to check the remaining internal pressure. Once the machine verifies the pressure, it then removes any remaining pressure inside the tank. The valve on the propane tank is removed automatically and the remaining vapor is safely purged, the company says. Following the vapor removal, the tank is crushed in preparation for recycling.

According to Colmar, the Propane Tank Processor can crush about 30 tanks per hour while keeping the operating cost and maintenance low.

Colman adds that multiple features have been installed to ensure the safety of the operators, including mechanical ventilation of the processing chamber while the tank is being processed, automatic fire suppression and automatic emergency stop functions.

Colmar says that its new propane tank processor is the first Colmar machine designed and manufactured in the United States.
