Coexpan
Coexpan, a Madrid-based company focused on sheet extrusion for the form fill seal (FFS) dairy markets in Europe, the U.S. and Central Asia, has announced that it received ISCC Plus certification from the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification program for its plant in Spain and will receive the same certification for its plants in Mexico and France this month.
According to a news release from Coexpan, this certification guarantees the use of circular and biobased polystyrene (PS) and polypropylene (PP) obtained from chemical recycling for use in its packaging solutions.
Coexpan says the certification is an important milestone because it acknowledges the group’s “commitment to sustainability, specifically in the area of circularity, recycling and environmental management.” It also will enable Coexpan to use recycled PS and PP obtained from mixed plastic and biobased material in line with the mass balance model.
The ISCC Plus sustainability certification system, which is applicable worldwide, evaluates all the sustainable raw materials, circular materials, biological materials and renewable energy by means of an audit to determine compliance with environmental sustainability requirements. In addition, the ISCC Plus system provides solutions for implementing and certifying supply chains that are sustainable, deforestation-free and traceable in terms of raw materials and waste, biomaterials and recycled materials.
