Drug enforcement investigators in Colombia discovered an estimated $210 million worth of cocaine on Oct. 19 in a shipment of scrap metal that had been bound for Spain.
An online article on the Colombia Reports website says national police in that nation confiscated 6 million metric tons of cocaine in the port city of Barranquilla.
The illegal drug was found within a Spain-bound container “with 20 pallets with boxes full of scrap metal, together with rectangular packets that turned out to contain cocaine,” according to the media report.
Colombia’s president has indicated the drugs belonged to a paramilitary and drug trafficking organization known as the AGC (Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia) that operates in and near Colombia.
The Colombia Reports article says the AGC had tried to send the drugs via “a front export company” that previously had made several shipments to Europe, but without drugs.
