A bottle recycling facility in Spartanburg, partly owned by the Coca-Cola Co., is feeling the squeeze of a tough economy.
About 50 employees of NURRC LLC at 5396 N. Blackstock Road have been laid off as Coke's managing partner at the plant, URRC LLC, is working to restructure the plant's operations and streamline its Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling business. PET is a thermoplastic polymer resin commonly used to make plastic drink bottles.
