Cobalt collaborates with Trimble

Fleets upgrading their onboard solutions with Trimble can send their used equipment to Cobalt for recycling or diposal.

Information technology asset life cycle management firm Cobalt, Middletown, Ohio, has announced that it is collaborating with Trimble, Sunnyvale, California, to provide that company’s fleet mobility customers the ability to dispose of outdated onboard electronic equipment while protecting data security and the environment.

Through this effort, Trimble customers upgrading to new devices in 2019 and 2020 will be able to ship their uninstalled Trimble equipment to Cobalt, a Responsible Recycling Practices (R2) and National Association for Information Destruction certified electronics recycler, for free for safe and secure disposal of the hardware, recycling any components when possible, Cobalt says.

“The ELD (electronic logging device) mandate and the sunset of 3G CDMA wireless networks mean that our customers and fleets throughout the industry are upgrading devices in their trucks,” says Rick Ochsendorf, general manager for Trimble’s Transportation Mobility division. “Part of our mission is to make transportation greener and more efficient. Not only do our latest solutions allow customers to achieve this, but we are committed to helping them remove older Trimble equipment in a way that benefits the environment as well.”

“We are excited and proud to work with Trimble on this important initiative,” says Joey Fojtik, CEO of Cobalt. “We look forward to assisting Trimble and its fleet customers in their sustainability efforts while protecting the Trimble brand from the risks and liabilities inhere to data security.”
