The Coast Waste Management Association (CWMA) is preparing to host its annual conference Oct. 22-24, 2014, at the Westin Bear Mountain Resort in Victoria, British Columbia.
The conference theme, “New Horizons in Waste Diversion,” is designed to “bring together waste and recycling professionals to explore leading-edge topics that affect the waste management and recycling sector today,” says the CWMA.
Among the speakers scheduled at the October event are Susan Collins of the Container Recycling Institute, Culver City, California; and Peter Anderson with the Center for a Competitive Waste Industry, Madison, Wisconsin.
Topics to be addressed within the event’s program, according to the CWMA, will include:

- community sustainability and education;
- packaging and printed paper extended producer responsibility (EPR);
- innovation in resource management;
- organics management;
- new approaches in waste diversion;
- waste characterization;
- flow control; and
- dollars and 'sense' of waste finances.
Also available will be tours of the Hartland Landfill in Victoria; The Bottle Depot, billed as the largest beverage container recycler on Vancouver Island; and a walking tour of Bear Mountain.
