Commercial Metals Company, headquartered in Irving, Tex., announced the opening of its newest scrap processing facility in Birmingham, Ala.
The facility, known as CMC Birmingham, will primarily provide processed scrap to SMI Steel-Alabama, CMC's steel minimill located in Birmingham. Additionally, CMC Birmingham will engage in all other facets of industrial and peddler scrap purchasing. CMC Birmingham will operate as part of CMC's Domestic Mills segment.
Dale Schmelzle, VP and GM of SMI Steel-Alabama, said, "We are excited about our new yard and the tremendous opportunities it will provide us in the Birmingham area."
Commercial Metals Company and subsidiaries manufacture, recycle and market steel and metal products, related materials and services through a network including steel minimills, steel fabrication and processing plants, construction-related product warehouses, a copper tube mill, metal recycling facilities and marketing and distribution offices in the United States and in strategic overseas markets.
