Commercial Metals Co. (CMC), based in Irving, Texas, has announced plans to either close or sell its CMC Sisak mill in Croatia. The Sisak mill is a steel pipe manufacturing operation.
CMC has issued a news release saying it will close out its existing orders at the mill and expects the operation to close within the next few months. The closure of the plant will result in the layoff of around 1,130 people.
The company also says it will close five rebar fabricating locations, including four located in the United States. The company also will be closing eight construction services locations.
Terming the moves “restructuring actions,” CMC says the closures are necessary so it can remain competitive and responsive to current and projected customer demand.
