GIE Media Inc., the parent company of the Recycling Today Media Group, was recently recognized by Cleveland Mayor Jane Campbell with a Gold Award for its contributions to Harvest for Hunger, a regional food and fund drive that helps to feed the hungry in Northeast Ohio.

The Gold Award, which is the second most prestigious recognition for Harvest for Hunger participants, was awarded to companies that raised an average of $50-59 per employee. GIE Media employees raised a total of $1,538 and this total was matched by the company for a total of $3,076.

“One of the principles this company was founded on was giving back to the community and GIE Media is proud of its ongoing participation in Harvest for Hunger — one of Greater Cleveland’s most important fundraising efforts,” says Dan Moreland, executive vice-president of GIE Media.

Art Director Andrea Vagas, the art director for Construction & Demolition magazine, as well as several other magazines, was presented with the Gold Award from Mayor Campbell. Vagas spearheaded GIE’s Harvest for Hunger’s participation through fundraising activities that included charity cookouts, contests and raffles.

GIE Media’s contributions helped Harvest for Hunger raise $1.95 million, enough to purchase 650,000 pounds of food. These numbers surpass Harvest for Hunger’s goal of $1.9 million (to purchase 600,000 pounds of food).

“What’s amazing about Harvest for Hunger is that so many people have given, whether it be at school, at work, at the grocery store or even while they are out at lunch,” Mayor Campbell said. “We wish there wouldn’t have to be a Harvest for Hunger, but as long as there is we are grateful to the tens of thousands who give every year.”
