According to an article in the Coloradoan, Clear Intentions of Denver has place collection bins for glass at multiple locations in Fort Collins, Colorado.
“We’re really trying to make it convenient,” Todd Lehman, the company’s vice president, told the newspaper, adding that millennials are among the company’s target audience.
Each drop-off box is paired with a local nonprofit, according to the article, which receives a portion of the proceeds the company receives from selling the glass to bottling companies.
Susie Gordon, a senior environmental planner with the city of Fort Collins, told the paper, “When glass is collected separately, it just is more valuable because it’s not mixed with other stuff, so it can go straight into these huge furnaces that they use to melt the glass down.”
Clear Intentions also offers a program called Glass Valet to businesses such as bars and restaurants. According to the Coloradoan, Glass Valet is currently available in Denver but will come to Fort Collins in the next few weeks.
“We essentially bring the glass recycling directly to them,” Lehman said of the program.
Because Clear Intentions hauls, sorts and processes the glass itself, it can offer its service at a lower cost than most recycling companies are able to, Lehman told the newspaper.
The company currently operates five drop-off bins in Fort Collins, including one each at the Odell Brewing Co. and the Horse & Dragon Brewing Co.
