The Staunton, Virginia Planning Commission will be hearing a request by Belmont Trap Rock Co., a Virginia-based recycling company, to have two parcels of land adjacent to it rezoned from light industry to heavy industry.
If the Planning Commission gives approval to the change the Staunton City Council will make the final decision on whether or not to approve the change in zoning.
Two representatives from the company said the business would use the location to process a variety of recyclables, primarily metals. Additionally, the company would use a rail spur on the property to transport the material to another loation.
According to reports, while the owner of the adjacent property said he had no major issues with the proposal, the city's Planning Commission voted 4-0 to recommend denying the permit.
