City Carton Recycling Raises Money to Fight Cancer

Annual golf outing raised over $97,000 for charity.

The Ockenfels Family

City Carton Recycling and Ockenfels Family Foundation raised over $97,000 to donate at their 14th Annual Charity Golf Outing on Aug. 12, at the Brown Deer Golf Club in Coralville, Iowa.

The outing benefits the American Cancer Society’s children’s programs through the “Debbie Ockenfels – Kids Rock!” foundation. Portions of the proceeds are also being donated to “The Heart Connection,” a camp for kids with cancer and their siblings.

More than 144 golfers from the U.S. and Canada participated in the outing, while more than 40 friends, family and City Carton Recycling team members assisted with the event.

Money is raised for the outing in a variety of ways. A large portion is pledged in activity and hole sponsorships.  "Premier" sponsors joining City Carton Recycling and the Ockenfels Family Foundation in the event this year included Core-Vens Insurance, Hills Bank and Trust Company, International Paper, IPS Balers, Kathy and Andy Ockenfels, L & P Wire Tie Systems, Machinex, Point Builders, LLC, Pralumex, Quincy Recycle, Ruhl & Ruhl Insurance, TREX, Vecoplan, and Waste Management – Recycle America.

All outing expenses are paid by the Ockenfels Family Foundation. The annual outing is held in memory of Deborah Ockenfels, daughter of City Carton Recycling founders Mort and Marcy. Deborah died of cancer at the age of 17.

Over $561,900 has been raised and donated to the American Cancer Society and children’s cancer programs since the start of the Charity Golf Outing 14 years ago.
