Chinese City Looks to Build E-Scrap Recycling System

Shanghai hopes to have electronics recycling facility operational by end of this year.

The government of the city of Shanghai announced plans to spend two years building a three-tier electronic waste recycling network system with a separate recycling center in each of its districts.

The three-tier recycling network will include 272 waste receptacle stations across the city, sub-stations for each trade association, and micro-stations at each district and county level.

The city estimates that it yields around 200,000 tons of e-waste each year. A recycling center in the city presently running through final preparations is expected to be put into full operation in the second half of this year.
