The Yunnan Aluminum Co Ltd, a major Chinese aluminum maker, began construction of an aluminum potline which, when complete, will have an annual capacity of 200,000 tons. Upon completion, the company will see its aluminum electrolysis capacity to reach 300,000 tons by 2004.
The project also includes the construction of a carbon plant with an annual capacity of 110,000 tons, to raise its carbon capacity to 170,000 tons.
In 2000, the smelter produced 111,680 tons of aluminum, up 32.66 percent year-on-year. In the first half of 2001, it produced 62,697 tons of aluminum, up 20.8 percent. Asia Pulse
