Chilean Steel Company Opens Scrap Operations

Chile's Gerdau Aza has begun a nationwide scrap metal collection and processing program, into which some $500,000 is being invested. The company is a subsidiary of Gerdau, a Brazilian steel maker.

The company is installing some mobile compacting machines this quarter that will be able to process around 10 tons of material per hour. They will operate throughout northern Chile. The company plans to stretch the processing of scrap metal to southern Chile next month.
