Solon, Ohio-based Cell Phones for Cancer LLC has introduced a program to collect unwanted cell phones in the Cleveland area for a fee and then will donate part of the proceeds to the Lung Cancer Alliance, Washington, D.C.
The Lung Cancer Alliance bills itself as a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to patient support and advocacy for people living with lung cancer and those at risk of contracting the disease.
Cell Phones for Cancer was created by Randall “R.J.” Campbell to honor his grandmother, who was diagnosed with lung cancer. In a news release, the organization says it “collaborates with all types of organizations ranging from small businesses to large government agencies to recycle cell phones.”
The group says it accepts cell phones in any condition and offers pick-ups in northeastern Ohio and will help arrange for pick-ups of large quantities outside of the area.
Once the phones are collected, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the organization’s charity of choice. If the organization does not have a preference, the portion will go to the Lung Cancer Alliance.
“We’re excited to partner with Lung Cancer Alliance. Our goal is to take care of the earth while taking care of the people,” says Campbell.
Emily Eyres, director of development of the Lung Cancer Alliance says the partnership “allows us to continue providing live one-on-one assistance, support and information for patients and families touched by lung cancer, while raising national awareness and securing multiple millions in public health research dollars.”
