Casella Waste Systems, Inc. announced that it has acquired William Goodman & Sons, a privately owned Scarborough, Maine, paper recycling operation. The company also announced that it has sold its recycling facility in Alexandria, Va., to Recycle America Alliance, LLC, an affiliate of Waste Management Inc.
Casella paid $2.8 million to acquire Goodman.
“The Goodman transaction allows us to significantly consolidate and rationalize our recycling footprint in that region, and to offer a higher level of service and expertise to all our municipal and commercial customers in an important market,” John W. Casella, chairman and CEO of Casella Waste Systems, said. The acquisition will allow Casella to consolidate a number of recycling operations in the state.
The company also said it has completed the previously announced purchase of the Hardwick Sanitary Landfill in Hardwick, Mass.
The company also announced that it has sold a recycling facility it operated in Alexandria, Virginia to Recycle America Alliance, L.L.C., an affiliate of Waste Management, Inc. The company said it would receive approximately $875,000 in net proceeds from the sale.
“The net effect of both of these transactions is to strengthen our focus, presence and capabilities on our core northeastern U.S. markets,” Casella said.Latest from Recycling Today
