Cascades Inc. has announced a planned investment in a new technology that will allow the company to produce high end tissue products with fewer recycled fibers. The Canada-based paper company says the investment could total more than $30 million and will be installed at the company’s tissue mill in Candiac, Quebec.
In making the announcement, Cascades claims that it becomes the only manufacturer in North America to have the Voith Atmos technology that is able to produce tissue paper with less recycled fibers. The company says the technology reflects Cascades' commitment to respond to customers' demand for higher quality products. It will allow Cascades to manufacture tissue products with fewer fibers, less energy, less water and fewer chemical products than in any other paper manufacturing process.
With the Atmos technology, Cascades also says that its Tissue Group will become the first to enter a new era in the production of tissue paper in North America. While other machines manufacture ultra quality tissue paper with fibers that are mostly virgin, this technology will allow the company to manufacture tissue paper with a majority of recycled fibers.
