Cascades Tissue Group announces that it will invest $15 million at its mill in Memphis, Tenn., for a deinking unit. The equipment will be used in conjunction of equipment that Cascades acquired at a Hagerstown, Md., paper mill.
When the installation is complete the Memphis paper mill will get its supply of raw materials solely from sorted office papers, and will use a Chlorine-free bleaching process, making the finished product 100 percent recycled post-consumer paper.
The plant was acquired three years ago from American Tissue, and has annual production capacity of 45,000 metric tons.
Suzanne Blanchet, president and CEO of Cascades Tissue Group, stated, "The strategy behind the integration of a deinking unit into our Memphis plant will enhance our competitiveness as a result of a reduction in costs, and will enable us to meet the increasing demand for products that are respectful of the environment."
