The Kingsey Falls, Quebec-based paper and packaging company Cascades has released what it says is the first polystyrene foam food tray in North America containing recycled material. The product, called EVOK is made with approximately 25 percent recycled material, is being marketed through the Canadian firm Metro Inc.
Cascades says the product is for packaging meat, poultry, fish, vegetables and fresh fruit and was developed through Cascades’ Specialty Products Group’s Consumer Products Packaging sector. The division conceives, manufactures and markets packaging products made of molded pulp and plastic.
"Rethinking packaging is one of our priorities in our corporate responsibility approach," says Serge Boulanger, Metro senior vice president of national procurement and corporate brands. "We're very pleased to contribute to the best practices by becoming the first national brand to use EVOK in all our stores in Quebec."
