Cascades Inc., based in Kingsey Falls, Quebec, Canada, has permanently closed its paper napkin converting plant in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. The plant specialized in paper napkin production for the away-from-home market, mainly for fast-food restaurants.
Orders previously produced at the plant will be redirected to the company’s Laval, Quebec, and Waterford, N.Y., converting plants, which also specialize in the away-from-home market, according to Cascades.
At full production the Kingsey Falls converting operation produced 3,000 tons of paper napkins per year. The plant had six machines.
Suzanne Blanchet , president and CEO of Cascades Tissue Group, says, "In line with our restructuring actions to increase our operations' efficiency, this decision was taken to secure our position as leader in the away-from-home tissue paper sector. This initiative will enable us to maximize the production at Laval and Waterford plants while continuing to offer a first-class product and service to our customers.”
Cascades Tissue Group, a division of Cascades Canada ULC, is the fourth largest tissue and towel producer in North America.
