Cascades Inc., Kingsey Falls, Quebec, has announced it is closing its brown containerboard packaging facility in Burlington, Ontario. According to a news release from Cascades, the Burlington facility will close “no later than July 31.”
“As part of the consolidation of our sheet plant operations in Ontario, we will be gradually redeploying production from the [Burlington] facility to our other units in Ontario,” says Charles Malo, president and chief operating officer of Cascades Containerboard Packaging business. “This decision was necessary to align present production capacities, position our platform for mid- and long-term success, improve productivity, reduce fixed costs and strengthen our service offering for our valued customers.”
The Burlington facility has 45 employees. Cascades reports that it plans to offer these employees the option to transfer to Cascades’ other business units to minimize the impact of the closure. The company says employees who cannot or do not want to relocate will receive support in their search for employment.
