Cascades Inc. has acquired 33 converting lines and concluded agreements to purchase a tissue paper mill and a paper machine through its affiliate, Cascades Tissue Group Inc. These assets were previously owned and operated by American Tissue Inc., a tissue and fine paper manufacturer presently in the reorganization proceedings under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.
The tissue mill is located in Mechanicville, N.Y.; the tissue paper machine is located at a pulp and paper mill in St. Helens, Ore., formerly owned by Boise Cascade.
The two facilities have a combined capacity of 110,000 tons. The assets will be acquired for $35 million, and will be completed within 60 days.
The tissue converting operations are mainly located in Waterford, N.Y., and Calexico, Calif. They were acquired from several financial institutions for about $20 million.
Cascades Inc. operates close to 150 units in Canada, the United States, Mexico, France, England, Germany and Sweden. Cascades recycles more than two million tons of paper and board annually.
(Rina Maquire with Cascades will be one of the speakers at the upcoming Paper Recycling Conference. For more information on the conference go to the web site.)
