The Carton Council’s 2025 School Grant Program has awarded just over $75,000 to 19 schools across the United States and Canada to help launch, expand or enhance carton recycling initiatives.

The Falls Church, Virginia-based organization selected nine schools in the U.S. and 10 in Canada to receive a total of $75,634 in funding to support a range of initiatives, including purchasing new sorting bins and signage, launching student-led green teams and implementing staff training and educational campaigns.

“The strong response to this year’s grant program shows just how motivated schools are to recycle food and beverage cartons,” Carton Council Executive Director Jordan Fengel says. “We’re proud to provide funding that empowers them to turn that commitment into action, helping launch or expand school carton recycling programs that keep cartons out of landfills.”

Carton Council grants provide upfront funding to support real-world implementation of carton recycling in K-12 schools.

“By recycling cartons, schools help ensure these valuable materials are transformed into new paper products or sustainable building materials rather than ending up in landfills,” the organization says.

In addition to funding, The Carton Council provides resources and support for schools, including case studies, templates and tools to support their recycling efforts. More information and resources are available on the Carton Council website.
