Stockport-based Carpet Recycling UK (CRUK) celebrated the achievements of its resource recovery ‘champions’ at its eighth annual conference and awards event at the Leicester City Football Club.
Individuals and organisations were honored and acknowledged for their contributions to greater sustainability in the sector. Innovations recognised included carpet tile reuse supporting disadvantaged people, recycled fibres turned into horticultural growing mats and collecting scrap carpet from retailers for energy recovery.
Receiving awards were:
- Recycling Champion, Graham Kempton of Designer Contracts Ltd., Derbyshire, for his reorganising delivery routes and increasing the capacity to collect more waste, to aid carpet recycling;
- Take Back Partner of the Year, Designer Contracts Ltd.;
- Reuse Member of the Year, Carpet Tile Recycling, Nottingham, for its development of new outlets for nonreusable tiles;
- Recycler of the Year, Desso UK, Waalwijk,nthe Netherlands, for designing more easily recycled products;
- Best Newcomer, Made by U Ltd., Doncaster, for diverting carpet waste in Yorkshire from landfill to the highest possible value outlets;
- The 2016 Outstanding Achievement, Anglo Recycling Technology Ltd., Rochdale, for its efforts to achieve high quality carpet fibres for reuse in textiles, including a closed-loop system that reprocesses retailers’ carpet off-cuts back into underlay; and
- Longstanding Support, Cormar Carpets, Greenmount.
