The Carolina Recycling Association (CRA) honored several municipalities, recycling companies and individuals during an awards ceremony at its 22nd annual conference held in Asheville, N.C., March 19 to 23. Awards were given in several categories. Winners are as follows:
- Recycler of the Year, B.J. Tipton, University of North Carolina (UNC)-Chapel Hill;
- Outstanding Local Government Program, Rock Hill, S.C.;
- Outstanding College or University, University of North Carolina Charlotte;
- Outstanding School Recycling Program, Keep Greenville, N.C., Beautiful’s Feed the Bin School Recycling Program;
- The Debut Award: Brightest Emerging Program, Pitt County, N.C.;
- Outstanding Business Recycling Program, Boeing’s North Charleston, S.C., facility;
- Litter Prevention Award, Keep Gastonia Beautiful, Gastonia, N.C.;
- Volunteer Leadership Award, Waste Reduction Partners, North Carolina;
- Outstanding Rural Recycling Program, Chatham County, N.C.;
- Bill and Carol Evans Toxicity Reduction Award, Horry County, S.C.;
- Getting the Word Out: Sensational Outreach Program, Mooresville, N.C.;
- Outstanding Composting or Organics Program, Appalachian State University, Boone, N.C.;
- Lifetime Achievement, Jane Hiller, Sonoco, Hartsville, S.C.
- Spotlight Award, Fayetteville Multi-Family Recycling; Mecklenburg County, N.C., Shredding Event; Rainbow Recycling (West Jefferson, N.C.) Hard to Recycle Event; and UNC Move In Crew.
