CARI Expands Electronics Presence

Canadian recycling association offers program and conference.

The Canadian Association of Recycling Industries (CARI), Ajax, Ontario, is expanding its organization to include additional services for electronics recyclers.

“The advent of far-reaching recycling regulations at both the provincial and federal levels offers both opportunity and complexity to those recycling end-of-life electronics (EOLE),” states a news release from the organization.

The concept and framework for CARI’s approach will be presented during a conference to be held on May 3in Barrie, Ontario. Electronics recyclers from throughout Canada are being encouraged to attend to help formulate the organization and assure their interests are represented, according to CARI.

The meeting will be held in conjunction with Electronics Product Stewardship Canada (EPSC) and the Recycling Council of Ontario (RCO) and will include interactive discussions on materials markets, industry-led qualifications and operating standards, a regulatory update and tours of two major electronic scrap processing operations located in Barrie: MaSeR Canada and GEEP.

“Over the past couple of years, CARI has been receiving more and more inquiries from electronics recyclers across Canada for collaboration and support” says Len Shaw, executive director of CARI. “Since 1941, CARI has been committed to meeting the needs of the broad spectrum of scrap processors and last fall the board of directors approved the development of a formal forum for this industry within CARI,” he adds.

The meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn in Barrie on May 3 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Those interested in attending can obtain an agenda and registration information by e-mailing CARI at donna.turner-cari@on.aibn.com.
