Cargo Securement Seminar Scheduled

ISRI to provide compliance information for scrap haulers.

A special seminar on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s new cargo securement regulations and how it affects scrap dealers has been organized by the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI).

ISRI has scheduled the event for Thursday, Dec. 11, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport Marriott South in Fort Worth, Texas.

According to ISRI, the seminar is designed to provide “key compliance information that would be valuable to any company that ships, transports, or receives flattened or crushed autos as well as companies that transport scrap materials in roll-offs or intermodal containers.”

ISRI Director of Risk Compliance Mike Mattia will provide an introduction to the new regulations, which take effect on January 1, 2004.  This overview is designed to provide a basic understanding of the regulations, their impact on transport business, and the practical alternatives for compliance.

Manufacturers who offer cargo securement compliance equipment have been invited by ISRI to make brief presentations about their products following Mattia’s session. The vendors will also be available as they staff their table-top exhibits in the meeting room. A cocktail reception following the formal program will enable seminar participants and vendors to meet informally and discuss their concerns and solutions.

The registration fee is $95 for ISRI members and $195 for nonmembers. A block of rooms is being held at the DFW Airport Marriott South at the special rate of $105 per night.

Complete program details and the registration form are available at www.isri.org. For information on exhibiting at the seminar, contact Lisa Ness at 910-426-7400 or email lness@nc.rr.com.
