Capitol Recycling Upgrades Fiber Sorting Line

Capitol Recycling, located in Hartford, Conn., recently upgraded its fiber sorting line to a commercial/residential sorting line designed and manufactured by Sherbrooke OEM,  based in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

The retrofitted system uses a special finger screen that replaces a traditional OCC screen. According to Capitol, downtime due to material wrapping around the rotating shafts was completely eliminated. The company also says there is no longer a need for a pre-sort conveyor before screening. The system includes an apron conveyor, finger screen, glass breaker, fiber screen, magnets and optical sorters.

The system’s capacity is 20 to 25 tons per hour for dry commercial recyclables and 30 to 35 tons per hour for residential single stream material.

Sherbrooke OEM is currently working on the second phase of the retrofit, which consists of the addition of an optical sorter from Eagle Vizion to clean the mixed fiber coming out of the lower finger screen’s deck.

Sherbrooke OEM was founded in 1997 and specializes in designing and manufacturing equipment for the recycling industry. The Canadian based company has been serving US-based recyclers since its start.
