Capital Markets Conference to examine M&A market trends

Waste Today magazine is hosting a session titled “Market Sector Analysis: Waste Markets” at this year’s Capital Markets Conference.

Waste industry market trends have a profound influence on business owners, specifically when it comes to capital requirements and the strength of the merger and acquisition (M&A) market.

To help sort through the issues affecting today’s business operators, Waste Today magazine is hosting a session titled “Market Sector Analysis: Waste Markets” at this year’s Capital Markets Conference, which is taking place Oct. 17-18 at the Marriott Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile.

This closing session will specifically focus on the municipal solid waste (MSW), construction and demolition (C&D), green and general waste segments, which together comprise the largest sector of the industry.

“There are many issues that will impact solid waste companies as they plan for profitable growth in the future,” Jim Keefe, publisher of Waste Today, says. “We have several industry veterans who will be addressing this range of issues in the closing session. It should be very insightful for both investors and operators.”

Speaking at the session will be three industry leaders with decades of experience navigating capital markets and M&A activity: John Casella, chairman and CEO, Casella Waste Systems; Ben Harvey, president, E.L. Harvey & Sons Inc.; and Alan Handley, CEO, Lakeshore Recycling Systems.

According to Handley, the session will explore some of the biggest issues business owners face in today’s shifting global market.

“I think the major issue that sellers face is how secure are your end markets for single-stream material? How much of the business has exposure to the vagaries of the fiber markets?” Handley says. “Other areas that we are constantly evaluating and which cause concern are the general condition and uniformity of the fleet against benchmarks—both ours and the industry’s—and how secure is a seller’s third-party transportation options. This session will tackle some of these hot-button issues.”

The Capital Markets Conference is a new waste and environmental services industry event focused on success strategies for those looking to invest or access capital for growth, as well as those considering a merger, acquisition or sale of their businesses.

This conference provides a blend of sessions that will deliver analysis of numerous industry sectors and insights into the capital markets available to finance growth and business development.

The conference is designed for operators in the waste management, specialty waste, recycling and waste cleanup industries, as well as for investment bankers, private equity firms, venture capitalists, family offices, banks and other financial market participants.
