Canadian Tire Recycler Receives Government Funds

Funds help Recyclage Granutech create jobs.

Plessisville, Quebec-based Recyclage Granutech Inc. has been awarded $517,500 in repayable funding through the Temporary Initiative for the Strengthening of Quebec Forest Economies (TISQFE) program. The money comes from Canada Economic Development and is contingent on Recyclage Granutech meeting current environmental standards.

“The project implemented by Recyclage Granutech is aimed at making its R&D-based manufacturing process profitable and enhancing its competitive position within its industry sector,” says Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources Christian Paradis.
The rubber chips recovered by Recyclage Granutech are sold to paper mills for energy production, the crumb rubber is used by manufacturers of playground synthetic surfaces and the steel is shipped to foundries for valorization.
The project in question will help maintain 20 jobs, recall 19 employees to work and create 13 permanent full-time new positions, according to a press release issued by Canada Economic Development.
The TISQFE was established in June 2010 to help communities affected by the forestry crisis in Canada to diversify their economies. The measure seeks to support the viability and sustainable growth of the small and medium-sized enterprises in these communities.
