Canadian Moving Company Seeks to Grow Shredding Line

Canadian company hopes to use expertise in moving business to grow mobile shredding business.

AMJ Campbell Van Lines, which has been operating in the Toronto area for more than 70 years, has recently taken steps to expand its business offerings by adding a shredding component to its commercial moving division.

AMJ Shredding was started by the moving company about one year ago. The plan was to offer some shredding services to companies who were having AMJ help with their move.

To develop the service, the company has been testing out a pilot program in the Toronto area that allows a customer of the moving division to be given a one-time offer to shred some documents.

While this service has been in operation for about two months, the company has seen some increased interest by customers, says Bob Moore, general manager of the division.

Moore previously worked for Pro-Shred, a Canadian-based shredding company that was acquired by Iron Mountain last year. He feels that the ability to offer shredding services to company that already have contracted AMJ for their moving needs provides an excellent opportunity for both parties.

AMJ Shredding presently operates one mobile shredding truck from Shred-Tech truck, with a second mobile truck on order.

While at the present time the company is providing shredding services to companies in the Greater Toronto area, the plan is to piggyback on the national footprint offered by AMJ Campbell Van Lines and offer the service throughout Canada. According to press reports the company is the largest office mover in Canada.
