Canadian District Postpones C&D Fee Hike

Tipping fee increase pushed back to Jan. 1, 2008.

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) in British Columbia, Canada, has postponed the increase of tipping fees for construction and demolition debris, according to a report in the Kootenay News Advertiser (Cranbrook, B.C.).

The increase from $40 to $200 per metric ton was originally scheduled to being Sept. 1, 2007 as part of the region’s new solid waste strategy.

The increase will now take effect Jan. 1, 2008, according to the report.

The regional government hopes the fee hike will decrease illegal dumping at rural transfer stations and encourage recycling.
