Belkorp Industries recently received approval by a federal bankruptcy court to purchase Deferiet Paper, a New York-based mill that has been idled since earlier this year. The purchase price is around $3 million.
Belkorp operates a deinking pulp mill in British Columbia. The company also has been looking at making a number of other strategic acquisitions in the Northeastern U.S.
The Deferiet mill was put up for auction this past summer. However, there was only minimal interest in the auction of the mill or even individual pieces.
