Canadian-based Paper Company Invests in Plants

Kruger is looking to invest several million dollars to enhance several of its packaging plants.

Kruger Inc. announced plans to invest $5 million in its packaging plants in Ontario and Quebec.

In Ontario, the operations of Craftwell Containers and Packaging Ltd., a Kruger affiliate company, have been integrated with the Kruger Rexdale plant’s operations. Furthermore, these investments will also allow modernization of the Rexdale plant’s corrugator and installation of a state-of-the-art multi-flute single facer and the purchase of a 4-color unit with drying system for the recently installed McKinley die cutter.

“This strategic change will consolidate management of both operations into a one-stop service and create a synergy of know-how and equipment. It will also enable our sales force to improve their service and enlarge the product mix on the corrugated packaging market" says David Janigan, Kruger’s vice president of Containerboard.

In Quebec, the Kruger LaSalle box plant will install a new three-color rotary die cutter press; the second within 8 months.

These investments reflect the determination of Kruger Inc., to reinforce its competitive position in the paperboard and corrugated packaging markets and represent the first phase of a strategic plan involving the enhancement of both equipment and operating systems.
