Atlanta-based Call2Recycle, a consumer battery recycling program, has announced a new partnership with CellBlock Fire Containment Systems (FCS) to expand its safe battery collection, handling and transportation.

According to a news release from Call2Recycle, this partnership supplements Call2Recycle’s program offerings to include a complete range of battery protection solutions, including fire suppression pillows and blankets, consumer mail-back solutions, hazardous material drums and damaged lithium-based battery kits.

“They offer a significant portfolio of products and solutions that offer both fire suppression and protection, and Call2Recycle wanted to include those into its overall services that it can extend to its customers,” says Linda Gabor, executive vice president of external relations at Call2Recycle.

Call2Recycle will be the exclusive U.S. distributors of the Maine-based CellBlock FCS products, which are made from postconsumer recycled glass. According to Call2Recycle, the product line covers multiple battery needs, from individual battery recalls to storing and transporting batteries of varying shapes and sizes. One of the technologies offered by CellBlock FCS is the CellBlockEX technology, which can be used as a fire suppressant tool.

“The way we see this for a number of recycling facilities is really to have them on standby, just like you would see in any emergency kit,” Gabor says of the CellBlockEX technology.

“We are excited to expand our service offerings through this partnership with CellBlock FCS,” adds Carl Smith, CEO and president of Call2Recycle Inc. “Our customers want easy access and speedy service when trying to return damaged/defective/recalled batteries, some of the most unstable and dangerous batteries to store. Safely handling all types of batteries is the only way to optimize collection and recycling. CellBlock’s range of solutions helps reassure our customers that we are handling batteries in the safest possible manner.”

“We developed CellBlockEX technology to provide an environmentally sound solution that helps mitigate the potential for lithium-ion battery fires quickly and efficiently,” says Dylan Vandemark, CellBlock FCS vice president of product development. “We are very pleased to partner with Call2Recycle to offer an additional layer of safety and security to customers, especially those shipping damaged/defective/recalled batteries.”

Call2Recycle works with major retailers, some of the largest municipalities in the country, and the largest battery and electronics producers in the world to assist in the sustainable disposal of products at their end of life. These customers demand the safest solutions available in the market.
