The California Integrated Waste Management Board's (CIWMB) Fifth California Scrap Tire Conference, featuring presentations on state scrap tire projects and issues affecting the scrap tire market, will be held September 2-4 in Sacramento.
“California, by far, has the most active state scrap tire program in the country,” Michael Blumenthal, RMA senior technical director, says. “The program funds an array of scrap tire projects and investigates issues that have not been researched by any other state. Certainly, if anyone is interested in learning about these dynamic programs or is interested in better understanding the California grant program, then they need to be at this conference.”
Among topics to be discussed at the conference are: civil engineering uses for tire shreds; tire processing; U.S./Mexico border issues; re-treading; CIWMB grant programs; enforcement training for municipal employees and law enforcement agencies; tire-derived fuel; ground-rubber products; rubberized asphalt; and fire prevention and storage regulations.
“Working with RMA on this conference is an excellent example of an effective private/public partnership,” Diane Nordstrom, CIWMB conference project manager, says. “Our goal for this conference is to highlight the California scrap tire program, which we believe remains on the cutting edge of research and information available from a state agency.”
Additional information on the California Scrap Tire Conference will be available on the CIWMB Web site, www.ciwmb.ca.gov/tire, and on the RMA's Web site, www.rma.org/scrap_tires.
