California Recycler Relocating

Move should resolve problems between city, green recycler.

Ending a contentious debate between itself and neighbors in Oxnard, Calif., California Wood Recycling has announced that it will be closing its Ventura operation and relocating to an orchard in Santa Paula.

According to Nan Drake, a spokeswoman for California Wood Recycling, says the company signed a deal with Limoneira Co., one of the largest orchards in California. The company expects to be located at the new facility by the end of September.

California Wood will start by using roughly five acres from the orchard, and will process wood waste generated by the orchard. The company could expand the operation to include 20 acres. The company, which recycles more than 204,000 tons of green waste a year, initially will be processing 200 tons per day at the new site, a decrease from the roughly 500 tons per day it processes daily at its Ventura site.
