U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D - Calif.) and the California Integrated Waste Management Board have recognized CSK Auto Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of CSK Auto Corp., based in Phoenix, for its successful oil and oil filter recycling projects during the last year.
CSK Auto's California stores, operating under the trade name Kragen Auto Parts, received a Certificate of Appreciation for Corporate Leadership.
"This is the second award in as many years for Kragen's efforts in providing free oil reclamation services to its customers," Terri Buttler, environmental affairs manager for CSK Auto, says. The company's 1,151 auto parts stores have collected more than 12 million quarts of used oil for recycling in the first eight months of 2005 and 152 million quarts since 1993.
Additionally, the company was recognized by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa for its role in a joint oil filter exchange/buy-back program at Kragen Auto Parts certified collection centers throughout Los Angeles. During this program, more than 27,000 oil filters were collected for recycling.
"CSK Auto has been and continues to be interested in contributing meaningfully toward preservation of the environment," Buttler says. "We look forward to participating in more joint programs like this in the future."
Most of CSK Auto's stores collect used oil and batteries for recycling, and some also accept used oil filters and antifreeze. To learn more about the company's recycling programs and to find the nearest collection center, log onto the CSK Web site at www.cskauto.com and click on "Recycling."
CSK Auto Corp. is the parent company of CSK Auto Inc., a specialty retailer in the automotive aftermarket. The company operates 1,151 stores in 19 states under the brand names Checker Auto Parts, Schuck's Auto Supply and Kragen Auto Parts.
