Larry Guidi, Mayor of Hawthorne, Calif., signed a new exclusive refuse and recycling agreement with the city‘s long-time hauler, H&C Disposal, earlier this month.
“H&C was selected by the Council as the best proposer. As a result of our competitive process, the average household will save $4 a month, or 21.3 percent. Over the 7-10 year life of this Agreement, that will save our 14,500 households $4.9 to $7 million. This is in addition to the $2 million/year that Hawthorne businesses are expected to save under the new commercial system which started on May 1, 2003,” said Guidi.
As part of the new program, residents will be given a new refuse and recycling system as well, that will encourage them to recycle more and waste less to improve the environment.”
All residents will initially be provided a set of three 65-gallon rolling carts. Residents may choose 35-gallon trash carts and pay less, or 95-gallon carts and pay more.
To switch cart sizes, residents are asked to contact H&C after Sept. 1 at (800) 420-8599.”
H&C Disposal provided all refuse, recycling and yard waste collection and disposal from residential and commercial sectors as the exclusive City contractor for the past 47 years.Latest from Recycling Today
