Waste Connections Inc. (WCI), Folsom, Calif., has acquired the operations of Alaska Pacific Environmental Services Anchorage LLC and Alaska Green Waste Solutions LLC, which together form Alaska Waste.
Alaska Waste, a privately owned solid waste services company, provides solid waste collection, recycling and composting services in Anchorage, the Mat-Su Valley, Fairbanks, the Kenai Peninsula and Kodiak Island.
The transaction is expected to close by the first quarter of 2012, but officials say it remains subject to closing conditions, including regulatory approval and receipt of certain governmental consents.
Ronald Mittelstaedt, WCI chairman and CEO, says, "Alaska Waste provides us an attractive opportunity to enter multiple markets within a new state and with leading market shares. Alaska's unique regulatory framework is somewhat of a hybrid between our existing markets in Washington and Montana. Alaska Waste has more than doubled its revenue over the past five years, primarily through acquisitions and new sustainability initiatives, including recycling, composting and biodiesel refining."
