The board of directors of the Tennessee Recycling Coalition (TRC), Nashville, has appointed Caleb Powell president of the organization. Serving a three-year term, he will be responsible for overseeing the organization's mission and goals, working with the board to grow the organization.

Powell is an environmental scientist with the Office of Sustainable Practices at the Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation (TDEC). He has been passionate about sustainability from a young age and has prior experience in the recycling industry, event coordination and energy conservation, according to a news release from TRC.

Powell is involved with the Tennessee Pollution Prevention Program at TDEC, where he also hosts The State of Sustainability podcast.

He has a Bachelor of Science in environmental sustainability and energy technology and a Master of Science in occupational health and safety from Middle Tennessee State University. Powell also holds an Energy Management Diploma from North Carolina State University.

TRC past President Lincoln Young will continue to work with TRC to guide in succession planning and as the new conference director.

"We are excited about the growth of our Sustainability Conference this year,” Young says. “This leadership change will allow focus from multiple individuals in different areas of our organization. The Tennessee Recycling Coalition is enthusiastic about our new scholarship and grant opportunities, and we want to see recycling education increase in Tennessee."

With these changes, additional board members will be needed, TRC says, encouraging those with a passion for sustainability who want to make a difference to apply. The association can be emailed at info@tnrecycles.com
